General Manufacturing Case Study — Potash Mining Facilty, UK

Project:

Potash Mine

Application Details:

Large Splitter Attenuator for Main Ventilation Shaft for Mining Industry

Supply Scope:

11.5m x 4.8m x 2m splitter attenuator supplied to reduce noise from large ventilation shaft fans. Wakefield Acoustics attended site to survey an existing mild steel attenuator which was badly corroded due to the aggressive atmosphere. A new replacement stainless steel attenuator was designed, manufactured and installed by Wakefield Acoustics.

The acoustic attenuator was manufactured with a modular stainless steel casing. Internal acoustic baffles were also fabricated with a stainless steel outer case with the acoustic media protected by a stainless steel perforated sheet.

Site installation was also undertaken by our experienced in- house team. This operation was particularly difficult given the deep shaft above which the attenuator was installed and hence meticulous planning, risk management and project execution was required.

Product Selection and Performances:

The structural design for the attenuator casing and associated supports accounted for the difficult installation conditions and associated wind loadings given the exposed conditions.
