New legislation and a public less tolerant of environmental noise mean that water companies must introduce noise control measures wherever possible. Alan Carter reports on a project in Derby that shows the way ahead.

Throughout Europe very important changes are taking place with regards to environmental noise policy, legislation and management. What is also becoming apparent - and is equally as important - is that the public's attitude towards environmental noise, particularly in the UK, appears to be changing - people are becoming less tolerant of noise in the environment.
